WVMEA Grant Programs

The WVMEA Music Education Project Grant program allocates funds to help stimulate creativity, innovation, experimentation, or positive change in school music programs. It encourages teachers to explore new ideas and approaches to music education. It also helps provide students with additional opportunities and experiences in music.

The WVMEA Music Education Professional Development Grant program allocates funds for professional development workshops for West Virginia music teachers that focus on pertinent topics and occur outside the context of the WVMEA In-Service Conference.

WVMEA MUSIC EDUCATION PROJECT GRANT PROGRAM

Purpose
The WVMEA Music Education Project Grant program allocates funds to help stimulate creativity, innovation, experimentation, or positive change in school music programs. It encourages teachers to explore new ideas and approaches to music education. It also helps provide students with additional opportunities and experiences in music.

Eligibility
Any music educator, group of music educators, or music supervisor employed by a West Virginia public or private elementary or secondary school may apply for Music Education Project Grant funds.

Amount
Music Education Project Grant awards are up to $500.00. Matching funds are not required; however, it is recommended that other sources of funds be used to supplement WVMEA funds.

Project Criteria
Each application will be evaluated according to the following criteria: project purpose, practicality of implementation, and implications for improvement of music teaching and learning.

Selection
Applications will be distributed for blind review to a panel of readers appointed by the WVMEA Executive Board. Recommendations will be made to the Executive Board, which will then make awards.

Timeline

  • Request a Music Education Project Grant Application. Please allow two weeks for your application to be mailed to you.
  • Completed applications must be postmarked no later than July 31st .
  • Music Education Project Grant awards will be announced by September 15th.
  • Approved projects must take place between June 15 of the current year and June 15 of the next year.

Music Education Project Grant recipients must submit a final report to WVMEA within 60 days of completion of the project or by August 01. This report will be published in Etude. It should include relevant statements about the purpose, implementation, results, and conclusions of the project.
